3 Ways to Plan for and Leave a Lasting Legacy

3 Ways

Robert Dibella, Florida Financial Group

Have you ever considered how you would like to be remembered? What legacy will you leave behind? A positive impact on the future is one of the greatest statements a person can make from their lifetime.  Setting up proper Legacy Planning in the three key areas can make all the difference.

Financial Legacies

Your goal may be to leave a financial inheritance. Many people want to help their children achieve dreams and realize financial goals, while others are passionate about helping a charitable cause that reflects their values.  Working with an adviser to help plan your Financial Legacy can help make these dreams a reality.

Traditional Legacies

At this time of year, we enjoy celebrating traditions with our family and friends.  Whether cooking holiday favorites together or hosting special gatherings, these shared moments create beautiful memories.  Holiday traditions generate positive emotional energy and create a pathway of transferring family history, values, and stories. Leaving a Traditional Legacy allows these memories to be part of your loved ones lives for generations to come.

Family Legacies

Family Legacies are dearest to my heart.  One special way to pass on your Family Legacy is to write letters to children and grandchildren. Think about everything you want to pass down to them and put it in writing: life lessons, successes and failures, and your hopes and dreams for them. Putting your Family Legacy in writing allows you to share your wisdom with your loved ones.  Building your Family Legacy is easy. Start with a divided notebook for each child and grandchild. Keep it by your favorite chair. Then as you look at each name, start writing those things you want them to know about you; funny stories about your life, sad events that affected you, maybe life lessons you learned the hard way. Include do’s and don’ts in relationships, your favorite places and why, or quotes that mean something to you. It’s written in the scriptures that the old men and women should teach the young. What a personal way to accomplish this!

Remember, share your failings as well as your triumphs, and how you dug deep inside yourself to become the person you are today. Live with love in your heart, passion, and character.  Write from the words of Shakespeare, “No legacy is so rich as honesty.” And live your life as if your legacy depends upon it because, after all, it does.
