Canine Companions for Independence, Yellow Dog Café and Adagio Vineyards Host Veteran’s Day Fundraising Event

This Veteran’s Day, Canine Companions for Independence (Canine Companions) will host a special event at the Yellow Dog Café to raise awareness of their Wounded Veteran Initiative. Attendees will meet wounded veterans who have benefitted from receiving an assistance dog from Canine Companions, local Canine Companions working assistance dogs and puppies in training, and enjoy gourmet hors d’oeurves from the Yellow Dog Café and wines from Adagio Vineyards.

For over 40 years, Canine Companions has been enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by training and placing more than 5,200 assistance dogs with program graduates, including over 175 dogs with wounded military veterans and more than 1,500 dogs with children, entirely free of charge.

In Brevard County alone, there are 6 volunteer puppy raisers actively working with future companion dogs and 14 active working teams, including two facility teams at Health First.

“Our wounded veterans give so much. As a board member of Canine Companions I am honored to be part of a program that helps wounded military veterans regain a sense of independence and live a better life,” said Deborah Angerami, the regional Chief Operating Officer for Viera and Cape Canaveral Hospitals. “I have also seen the direct impact of the work of Canine Companions through the two facility dogs that work for Health First. They motivate and support our patients and their family members by interacting directly with patients to improve their physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills.”

Tickets for the event are $65 per person or $120 per couple. Space is limited. RSVP at www.cci.org/brevardveterans.
