Cocoa’s Water Tank Wins 2015 Tank of the Year
Tnemec Company awards the iconic structure featuring the three American Flags

Tank of the Year is a national contest presented by Tnemec Company Inc, which was awarded this year to Cocoa’s iconic 156ft. tall structure. The tank which features three 25ft high American Flags was recently re-painted as part of a resurfacing project started last year. The flags were originally painted on the tank in 1976 by a Greek immigrant to celebrate the nation’s Bicentennial. When the recent resurfacing project came up for approval to City Council, the flags remaining on the tank was a necessity.

“The City of Cocoa values its history. The flags are an important part of our history and proudly remain displayed on our tank. We are honored to make history once again by becoming the 2015 Tank of the Year to display to the nation our patriotic pride,” said Cocoa Mayor Henry Parrish.

The 1.5 million gallon tank is used to maintain constant pressure in the distribution system which supplies more than 22.7 million gallons of drinking water per day to approximately 80,000 customers in central Brevard County including Kennedy Space Center, Port Canaveral and Patrick Air Force Base.

Cocoa’s tank was one of the twelve top-voted tanks in the online voting polls securing a spot in Tnemec’s annual calendar along with another local tank, Plant City, FL. More than 20,000 online votes were cast. Of those top twelve, a panel of water tank enthusiasts chose the City of Cocoa’s tank based on its artistic value, significance to the community, and challenges encountered during the project. Cocoa’s water tank will now be featured on the cover and the month of January in Tnemac’s 2016 water tank calendar.
