Executive Business Showcase: Dr. Leslie Callaway

Name: Dr. Leslie Callaway

(Formerly Dr. Leslie Collins)

Company: TRES VISION Group

Title: Doctor of Optometry

Years at company: 2

Area of expertise:

Medical eye care, glaucoma, post-operative care

Why did you choose this career path?

I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, and optometry seemed like a great fit! I always enjoyed going to the eye doctor growing up and it seemed like a great job that would allow me to also raise a family. But further than that, I also find the eye so fascinating. For such a small organ, it is very complex and sometimes challenging.

Why were you drawn to TRES VISION and what have you learned since being there?

I was first drawn to TRES VISION by Dr. Tres! I am originally from Indiana, where I also went to optometry school and did an ocular disease residency. Dr. Tres did his fellowship training at one of the nearby highly esteemed practices. Getting to work with an exceptional ophthalmologist as a colleague and mentor really drew me in.

I have learned a lot at TRES VISION group, but I think one of the most important things I will always take with me is the importance of always working to better ourselves and those around us.

How would you describe your approach to patient care?

I try to approach patient care by always listening first, and ask questions next. I also am big on education. Talking with patients, explaining pathology and treatment options, helping them to make informed decisions on what is best for them is very important to me.

Outside of work, what are some of your favorite things to do?

I am avid about exercise. Space exploration and travel are also fascinating to me. I love watching rocket launches, reading about the space race, and spending time at Kennedy Space Center. My ultimate dream would be to go to space one day.

Advice to others about work, life, community:

Treat others the way you want to be treated. I think we could all use more kindness in the world.

What do you love about your work?

I love building relationships with my patients. I love getting to know them and their families and building a trusting, honest relationship.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by challenges. I have always been very competitive and love working on a challenge.

What’s some great advice you have received?

The advice I hear most often is “Never get old!” by all my patients. Some great advice I have received is to “always treat people with kindness.”
