Why did you choose this career path?

When I was at the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate degree, I was focused on both football and school, but I knew I would eventually need another occupation to pursue. After practice one day, we went over to the student union for a job fair, and I ran into an optometrist from Ohio State who told me that this is the best profession in the world. It’s productive, rewarding, and steady, and I could provide for my family. Plus I knew I wanted to stay in medicine, so this just felt like the right path.

Why were you drawn to TRES VISION

It was the ability to practice truly effective and advanced eye care. In this setting, with the tools and the team we have, we can make a big difference. Working in a practice that has an ophthalmologist is also an advantage because I can meet with Dr. Tres to discuss cases and treatments, and get a second pair of eyes on everything.

How would you describe your approach to patient care?

It’s most important to me to first listen to the patient and evaluate the problem to really understand what they need, and then to be able to assess, diagnose, and treat each patient in the most thorough and detailed way possible. At TRES VISION, it’s a privilege that we have all of the equipment available to us right here to do that. We can get our patients back to their best vision so they can do what they enjoy.

Outside of work, what are some of your favorite things to do?

Golf, and travel. My favorite places are French Polynesia and Italy, I’ll actually be travelling there later this year.

Any advice to others about work, life, community? Is there any piece of advice you’ve received that you try to pass along?

Stay focused because time flies, especially as you get older. I really can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 35 years.

There’s also one piece of advice I got from one of my coaches one day after a bad practice: “Never let anybody call you a nobody.” That always stuck with me; it motivated me.

What do you love about your work?

The camaraderie of the staff. We all get along really well, and our work environment is relaxed but proficient. And the gratitude of the patients; seeing they are happy to be here and trusting us to take care of them.

What inspires you?

That’s an easy one: my family. I want to make sure they’re taken care of, and that I look out for everyone.
