Personalized Service That Adds Up

As owner and general manager of United States Bookkeeping Co., Sharon Dubois specializes in helping small business owners maximize their profits and regain their most precious resource — time. She understands firsthand what it takes to run a small business because she has been leading her own company for over five years.

With all it takes to run a company, bookkeeping tasks can sometimes get overlooked. Many business owners try to manage it on their own, but they can quickly get in over their heads as the business grows. Others come to realize that these accounting tasks are taking away from the job they love, or from precious time with family and friends. That’s when many business owners turn to Dubois and United States Bookkeeping Co. (USBC). Dubois and her team understand that running a business takes a lot of time and energy, and they are available to remove some of the stress.

Ron Burford, president of Launch Network Digital Media Services, has been working with Dubois for over eight years. He has followed her throughout her career, leaving his bookkeeping in her capable hands wherever she worked. Burford said Dubois’ services have been invaluable to his growing company.

“Sharon keeps everything in order with the books so I don’t have to spend any time there,” Burford said. “She is somebody I can trust to do everything correctly, which gives me more time to work on my business and more time to spend with my daughter and my wife, who are my whole world.”

Over 90% of USBC’s clients come to them through referrals. Some come from the client’s tax professional, others from fellow small business owners already using USBC.

Why do so many entrepreneurs and business owners recommend USBC? Because they offer much more than standard online bookkeeping programs. Shannon Adams, vice president of the iconic Brevard County surf shop Longboard House and sister store Paddleboard House, said Dubois is her go-to for all things related to the numbers side of the business.

“With online bookkeeping programs, there is no intimacy,” Adams said. ”Sharon has been in my store, in my office. She understands what we need and how to meet the needs of Longboard House.”

Dubois’ custom bookkeeping service differentiates itself with the high level of personalized attention each account receives. Dubois and her team offer packages specifically designed to meet each client’s individual needs.

“We sit down with business owners and listen to what their needs are,” Dubois said. “We use the combination of what they think their needs are along with our experiences to customize their bookkeeping packages.”

At USBC, every package includes unlimited one-on-one support from a dedicated account specialist. They provide weekly communication and meet with clients face-to-face, though those meetings may be virtual these days. Dubois and her team want every business owner to understand the information they are generating.

“We truly work with our business owners to help them understand what all those pieces of paper, like profit/loss statements and balance sheets, mean,” Dubois said. “Most businesses get weekly reports from us, so their information is as ‘live’ and up-to-date as possible. That way business owners can make good decisions for their business daily.“

“She saves us time and money by pointing out things we can do differently,” Adams said. “I know I can call her day or night with questions. But what really sets Sharon apart is her professionalism and easygoing style. She is so capable professionally and so personable to work with.”

Like all business owners, Dubois found herself at a crossroads when COVID-19 hit. Her clients were affected, as well. Many businesses she worked with, such as restaurants and hair salons, were hurting. She found herself anxiously watching the decline while helping small businesses to reinvent themselves.

“In 2020, our focus changed. We had to reinvent how we scheduled things and the tasks that we do,” Dubois said. “PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) applications and Small Business Administration loans, things that were not part of our usual services, became everyday life. We now even have a certified COVID specialist on staff, and we can help clients keep their locations safe for both employees and customers.”

Some businesses, particularly those offering technology or home improvement services,  really boomed during the pandemic, scaling faster than their owners had planned. USBC was ready to help those companies deal with their quick growth and the issues that came along with it.

“Sharon handles my money and allows me to make more,” Burford said. “At USBC, you are not a number. Sharon knows about your needs and your business. She is flexible and will design something custom around your business.”

Looking toward the future, Dubois is hopeful.

“We are hoping that small businesses continue to grow in 2021 and we are able to support and help them.”
