Serene Harbor Plans Nadene Cavaliere Center for Domestic Violence Survivors

Serene Harbor Plans Nadene Cavaliere Center to Expand Services for Domestic Violence Survivors

We may be accustomed to turning to friends, coworkers or networking partners for assistance when seeking an answer. But if the situation is more personal, would you turn to them? For many survivors of domestic violence, reaching out to family or friends could result in shame, stress, or anxiety due to having to confront their reality and manage fear that they might be judged by the very same people they are supposed to trust.

When Serene Harbor opened its doors in 1992, we strived to be a place where survivors of domestic violence could come to escape abuse and start a new life with the guidance of our advocates. We have seen thousands of survivors, their children and pets in the past 31 years, and we know that not everyone can pick up their phone to call/text/TTY our confidential hotline 321-726-8282 to speak with an advocate about their situation.

Our center is confidential, making arriving at our doors for assistance more difficult for survivors. Serene Harbor works with local law enforcement, other nonprofit organizations, and the services of ride-sharing platforms to provide safe passage to our center. The survivors are our priority, but what about those who can’t contact us via phone, text, or chat?

As the services that Serene Harbor offers expand to meet the needs of our survivors, we have realized the need for an outreach center, open to the public, that serves as a central hub for the community to receive advice, guidance, and prevention training against the dangers of domestic violence. To meet these needs, Serene Harbor aims to open the Nadene Cavaliere – A Beacon of Hope, Help, and Healing Outreach Center.

The center, named in memory of Nadene Cavaliere, a prominent figure in the Brevard County community who left us too soon due to domestic violence, will serve as a centralized location providing services such as confidential support with certified and trained domestic violence advocates, counseling, children support services, injunction for protection attorney services, relocation services, case management, support groups, among many other services. We hope to prevent the next loss of life due to domestic violence.
We hope that the center will become a place where survivors can come in and receive support directly from an advocate, and that they know we are open for their needs, and that for Serene Harbor, their safety is a priority.

We are in the development stages for the outreach center. Serene Harbor has received so much support from local businesses and organizations joining our efforts to make the Nadene Cavaliere – A Beacon of Hope, Help, and Healing Outreach Center a reality.

We have a long way to go until we reach our fundraising goal for the center, but you can do your part and stand up against domestic violence and become a funding supporter of the center. Serene Harbor is currently accepting donations to assist with our plans for the outreach center; visit this link to join the others who already have pledged to support our survivors.

We encourage you to speak with your family, children and friends about healthy relationships and plant the seed of knowledge in them so that when confronted with abuse, they can stand up against it. Our confidential hotline 321-726-8282 is open 24/7, where a trained, certified advocate is ready to listen and guide you on your path to a life free of abuse.
