LaunchIT Readies Veterans, Adults with Disabilities for Tech Careers
There’s always something exciting happening on the Space Coast, and Brevard Achievement Center’s innovative program, LaunchIT, is “the newest thing since sliced bread,” according to recent graduate of the program, Stephen VanDeMark.
Through LaunchIT, Brevard Achievement Center (BAC) is inspiring, educating, and empowering veterans and adults with disabilities to gain the certification and training needed to obtain a successful career in the field of information technology (IT).
“LaunchIT is available nationwide to adults 18 and over thanks to the training being provided on a virtual platform. This is an interactive training that offers two technical certification tracks,” shared Keri Goff, BAC’s community relations manager. “Participants in both tracks also receive the full wrap-around benefits provided by BAC, including workplace soft skills and business training certifications.”
The timing of LaunchIT could not be more perfect because of the high demand for capable and qualified candidates to fill entry-level roles in IT. Congratulations are in order for the inaugural graduating class of LaunchIT, which recently matriculated in August — they are poised and ready to enter the workforce.
“Launch IT has given me the opportunity to launch a career in IT, a field I am intensely passionate about and will provide me with almost infinite growth possibilities, both financially and in my knowledge base,” shared graduate Meg Germain. “This is a field where lifelong learners and those that enjoy problem solving can thrive. I'm so grateful for the Launch IT program because without it, I wouldn't have had the financial means or the social accountability and motivation to get where I am today.”
Germain also talked of the impact the program has had beyond a career path.
“This has boosted my confidence and created a foundation of skills so that I can create a life for myself and my family where we cannot just survive, but thrive,” she said. “I would like to thank everyone who made this program possible from the bottom of my heart.”
In order to fully bring the LaunchIT program to life, BAC partnered with Codecraft Works, an educational technology company specializing in computer science, cybersecurity, and engineering curricula.
Tiernan Hennessey-Flaherty, a recent graduate, said the six-month program set him up for a long-term career in IT.
“I thank everyone that's been there every step of the way,” he said.
Fellow graduate Michael Herndon summed up the program as being about, “reaching one's maximum potential.”
