RADIO PERSONALITY MINDY LEVY AS CHAIRPERSON FOR 2018 MAKING STRIDES

The American Cancer Society announced today Mindy Levy of the Mike & Mindy Morning Show, WLRQ, Lite Rock, 99.3, will be the Chairperson for the 2018 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) walk held in Viera Saturday, October 27.

“We are so very fortunate to have the Mindy as this year’s Chairperson” said Michelle Oesterle of the American Cancer Society (ACS).  “Mindy, one of Brevard’s best-loved radio personalities, has participated in Brevard County Making Strides events since the first one was held on the Eastern Florida State College (formerly Brevard Community College) campus in 2003 with about 500 individuals walking.  Through her work at Lite Rock, an annual media sponsor, coupled with her passion for this event, Mindy has helped this event grow to be the largest outdoor annual awareness and fundraising walk with continued year-on-year growth to over 8,000 participants each year.”

Behind Mindy’s decision to volunteer with the ACS for this particular cause is that her family has been touched directly with breast cancer.  Two aunts were diagnosed many years ago (now doing well), her husband lost his mother to this disease when he was only 13-years old, and most recently her sister-in-law lost her battle with breast cancer a few years ago and left behind three wonderful teenagers.  Mindy states “I am honored to make a difference right here in our community to increase awareness and help not only those who have been diagnosed with this disease as well as the families, friends, and loved ones of those diagnosed. The Brevard MSABC gives our community an inspiring opportunity to come together to honor breast cancer survivors, raise funds, increase awareness about steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.”

In the United States, each year close to 266,120 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and approximately 2,550 men will be diagnosed. Thanks to work done by the American Cancer Society, survival rates continue to increase. Prevention, early detection, and treatment are critical.

About The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. The American Cancer Society's efforts have contributed to a 38 percent decline in the breast cancer death rates in the United States over the past two decades. According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2017, an estimated 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,610 will die from the disease this year. About 2,470 men are also expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year with 460 deaths.  The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation. Since 1993, more than 13 million supporters have raised more than $810 million nationwide to help save lives from breast cancer. The dollars raised enable the Society to fund groundbreaking breast cancer research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by the disease; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable.

We're finding cures as the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air and more.
