Treatments and Lifestyle Changes to Knock out Acne

Are acne breakouts getting you down?  Do you ask yourself, "Why me?" and feel jealously toward those with clear skin?  If so, it is time to stop blaming yourself.  Your acne is not your fault.  You deserve to feel good about yourself and live your life free from the mental and physical suffering caused by acne.  There are many treatment options.

The first step in treating acne is to know what it is and what it is not.  Acne is a condition caused by the over production of an oily substance called sebum.  It is triggered by hormone changes, stress, puberty, menstruation, or menopause.  Acne is not a result of poor washing habits or a punishment from God.

Once you stop blaming yourself, you can start loving yourself enough to find the treatment option that works best for you.  You are worth the time and energy needed to succeed.  You can start by seeing an Esthetician or Dermatologist to evaluate your skin type and condition.  Depending on what is found during your exam, recommendations might include prescription medication, a daily skincare cleansing routine, diet changes, or a number of other lifestyle changes.

Always use your best judgment when choosing a treatment option that is best for you.  If a dermatologist recommends a prescription medication, review the side effects before deciding if it is right for you.  If you are uncomfortable with the precautions, try something else. A daily skincare routine may greatly reduce acne breakouts.  Begin and end each day by cleaning your face with a gentle cleanser that is designed for sensitive skin. Your skin may also require oil blotting in the middle of the day. Exfoliate only a few times per week.

Lifestyle changes that may help treat acne include: reducing stress, getting adequate sleep, increasing water intake, and decreasing processed food consumption.  Loving yourself and giving treatments enough time to work will eventually bring you success.  Hold your head high and be proud of who you are, no matter what condition you have, and the healing will begin.
