Summer Beauty Survival Kit

Summer brings us lots of sunshine, heat, waves and a plethora of beauty hacks to keep us feeling fresh and vibrant inside and out. So what should be in your summer survival kit? These four staples will serve you well:

  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Lip balm with SPF

Beyond these basic summer must-haves, here are some other products and tips.

Face: A  bright option for this time of year is the new All Bright C Serum from Beauty Counter.

“You can weave this into any regimen to see immediate brightening benefits,” said Michelle Mariacher, beauty consultant for BeautyCounter (@mindfulmeesha). This serum helps support skin's natural collagen production and offers antioxidant protection against pollution, free-radicals and daily stressors.

Moisturizer: Dermatologists suggest going extra light during summer months on face products, like Beauty Counter’s Dew Skin tinted moisturizer. It’s light, tinted and has SPF 20.

Arbonne’s RE9 Advanced Light Soft Focus Veil with SPF 30 can go over a moisturizer. It has a sheer tint and leaves a photo-filtered effect.

Summer hair… we just don’t care! Don’t worry, you can tame the frizz guaranteed by a hot, humid day with Garnier’s anti-frizz cream.

Makeup tips: “Yes, most of us live just 15 minutes from the beach, but that doesn’t mean we get to bask in the sun as much as we’d like,” said Darcy Manning, a Cocoa makeup artist (@makeupbydarcymm). “Bronzer to the rescue! Plus, using makeup to achieve a tan is a lot less damaging on your skin.”

For eyes, Manning recommends NYX Retractable Eyeliner. “Its waterproof, gel formula glides easily across that sensitive area of the eye.”

Body Rescue & Renew: This line from Arbonne focuses on the body’s flow of energy for the ultimate in self-care. Using Ayurvedic principles, this line promotes a sense of balance between mind, body and skin. The rescue and renew product formulations feature key ingredients like turmeric root, dandelion extract, and ginger root oil, which help detoxify by cleansing impurities.

“As a registered nurse, I recommend using a holistic approach to beauty, wellbeing and health,’ said Arbonne consultant Sharise Deimeke (@sharise_deimeke). “Focusing on using products that use plant-based ingredients instead of chemical toxins, and grounded in science and clinical research with the highest standards for safety, will set you up for a healthier lifestyle, and a positive mindset — both of which help you flourish in all areas of life.”

Sun protection: This is vital for everyone in the family. Make sure kids wear sunscreen, like Beauty Counter’s CounterSun mineral sunscreen with SPF30, every time they’re out in the sun. Next, you can search for UV swimwear, which according to doctors, is effective at reducing the amount of UV that reaches your child.

Last but not least, as a Sunshine State rule: Keep hydrated and remember that you can glow all year long with helpful tips for your health and body.
