Tracy's Wellness Journey: Watching a Blessing Grow Up

Blessings come in various forms, shapes, and sizes. This is a story of how a blessing named Chelsie affected my life and how I was able to return a blessing to her.

When my daughter, Taylor, was in high school, her childhood best friend needed a place to stay. The first time Taylor asked my husband and I if Chelsie could live with us, it didn’t feel right. Chelsie was still a minor and her parents were going through a difficult breakup. It felt like getting involved would be complicated and messy. Fast track 12 months and an 18th birthday later and Chelsie moved in and spent her senior year of high school with our family.

Just three weeks after Chelsie moved in, my daughter moved out under complicated circumstances. It was a difficult time in my life, but Chelsie offered me comfort, compassion, and a fresh perspective. She was insightful and made the situation bearable.

During the past 12 years, this young lady has grown and evolved. She became a phlebotomist and has worked her way up to management. She has traveled the world, impacted lives, paid it forward and became a mommy to EJ.

Last fall, when Chelsie asked us if we would consider hosting her upcoming wedding at our home, I was happy to support her again. This past Feb. 27, Chelsie married her best friend and EJ’s father, Evan Williams. My husband, Wendall, had the honor of performing the ceremony.

Chelsie had a vision for her wedding, but the young adults and new parents had a limited budget. She asked Taylor and I to help her plan. Of course, we said, “YES!” Once I was able to understand her vision, I called on local professionals and friends to help make her dream wedding a reality.

It was both an honor and blessing to host this young couple's wedding at our home. My vision was to help Chelsie and Evan realize their dream wedding by easing the financial pressure and letting them experience the importance of having a tribe — established lifelong friendships that you can count on any time.

Our friends and family donated their time and talents wherever possible to minimize costs. Cooking, decorating, setting up and tearing down, cutting logs, stringing lights, hauling tables and chairs – you name it, we got it done.

I believe that God uses us to help create the results he is wanting for our lives and the lives of others. So when you answer the call, it’s a blessing for everyone involved.

One of the coolest things about this wedding is that collectively, with the groom’s parents being married 37 years, this young couple was surrounded and supported by over 150+ years of marriage. To me, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Both Chelsie and Evan were born and raised in Brevard County. They currently reside in Castle Rock, Colorado with their son, EJ.
