Clean the Carr - Wildlife Refuge

CLEAN THE CARR - Entire National Wildlife Refuge and a little more

Help us clean all 20.5 miles of Archie Carr NWR to welcome back our nesting sea turtles to the cleanest environment possible. When you register to volunteer, please list the name of the organization you represent and we will assign you to the beach access locations by organization. If you do not belong to an organization, that's fine too. If you have any preferences about where you clean the refuge, just leave us a comment.

This first, hopefully annual, cleanup of the entire Carr Refuge (plus continuing to the Disney Resort) is expected to require two hours. You are welcome to join us at a social gathering at the Barrier Island Sanctuary afterward.

2018 sea turtle nesting has already started with the Leatherbacks on Florida's East Coast. This event is planned to clean the beach in advance of the Loggerhead season that starts around May 1. The Greens begin nesting in June with a season that can extend to November. The Carr Refuge is one of the most important beaches for sea turtles worldwide, so let's do our best to clean it including the small pieces of plastic that the hatchlings ingest.

Please bring the sunscreen and insect repellent of your choice. Bring a reusable water bottle. We will have water at the beach access points to fill your bottles.

This cleanup is expected to be sponsored by many organizations in our area. A complete list will be posted soon.
