Brian Barber loves being a part of the Space Coast. He grew up here, met his wife, Lindsey, here and together they are raising their three children in Melbourne Beach.

“Brevard County really has it all. Industry, innovation and it is a great place to raise a family,” Barber said.

Barber is the owner of Melbourne-based Clayton Construction and Development, Inc., a company he took over from his father, who founded it in 1985. The name “Clayton” is a reference to four generations of Barber men who share it as their middle name, including Brian Barber’s 5-year-old son, Bradley. Daughter Shay, age 3, and son Cole, age 1, round out the family of five.

Barber works to maintain high quality standards while keeping a family business feel.

“It is important to me to hire people who have the same standards that I do and who care about the quality of the work we produce,” Barber said.

Jeff and Gina Szeman of West Melbourne recently hired Barber for a full kitchen and bathroom remodel in their home. In addition, they asked him to replace all of the flooring and paint the interior walls.

“Brian went above and beyond what was in our original quote and was very accommodating to changes, and even added a few extras,” Gina Szeman said. “The timeline for completion will be pretty close to what he estimated, which is important to us because we are excited to get back into our house and start enjoying it.”

The custom feel that Barber applies to residential projects is something he likes to extend to his commercial clients, too.

“One of my favorite projects so far was rebuilding a launch pad there,” Barber said.

He also recently completed a large commercial project for Melbourne-based Absolutely Natural, Inc.

Barber renovated three commercial buildings, including refinishing floors, constructing new offices, building a new fill room and creating an addition to a lab.

“The thing that stands out most to me is Brian’s insistence on quality work. He is a perfectionist and his workers share his philosophy,” Charley Richards, owner of Absolutely Natural, said.

For Barber, that perfectionism extends beyond working hours.

Brian loves creating and building things. You’ll almost always find him working on something,” Lindsey Barber, Brian’s wife of seven years, said. “His passion is invigorating.”
