Family Promise of Brevard Keeps Homeless Families Together

Brevard County, FL- Family Promise of Brevard is a non-profit agency that assists homeless families in putting themselves on a path towards long-term housing stability. Family Promise of Brevard focuses on the entire family, ensuring that men and boys over the age of 12 to stay with the family during the most difficult times of their lives. They offer families a hand up to change their circumstances by providing shelter, homeless prevention and stabilization services.

What makes Family Promise of Brevard unique is their ability to mobilize volunteers and congregations throughout Brevard County to provide a safe place to stay so that families are able to stay, learn, and grow together as they start a new life. Once they graduate from the shelter program, families continue to receive supportive services and financial coaching from Family Promise to build self-sufficiency.

Family Promise of Brevard Executive Director Tara Pagliarini said it’s the organization’s creative approach to the challenge of family homelessness that leads to long-term stability for the families they serve. “Family Promise strongly believes in empowering families to make their own changes towards increased self-sufficiency and lasting independence,” said Pagliarini. “Our families receive a creative, strengths-based, and multi-systemic approach to ending their own homelessness.”

The commitment to helping homeless families find housing stabilization extends beyond their time in the program - Family Promise truly does keep their word on their promise to help end family homelessness in Brevard County. Since opening in 2013, Family Promise of Brevard has prevented or diverted homelessness for more than 750 households. After 35 days in the Family Promise program, 88% of families have moved from homelessness into stable housing. Two hundred children have slept in congregations, instead of in a car, tent, or motel room.

Family Promise of Brevard relies on donations to keep their three programs running. The Interfaith Hospitality Network, Keeping the Promise and Hand Up program are all critical components of helping homeless families find and maintain affordable housing. Generous donations from the local community ensure homeless children in Brevard have a place to sleep and that families are not forced to separate during such a difficult time.
