Palm Bay and West Melbourne Police Fulfill Christmas Wishes for Local Children

Members of the media are invited to join dozens of Palm Bay and West Melbourne police officers and employees, who will be answering a different call for service on Thursday, December 14th for the annual "Operation Reindeer Run".   Officers and staff will escort over 100 children through the aisles of the Palm Bay Road Wal-Mart for a unique Christmas shopping experience. The event begins with breakfast generously provided by Golden Corral, followed by the arrival of some "special guests" including Santa and some of his friends.  After breakfast, the Palm Bay Police and the Palm Bay Fire Departments will escort shoppers across the street to the Palm Bay Road Walmart where the Reindeer Run will commence at 8:00 a.m.

The children participating in this year's event were selected through a partnership with the local schools and were identified as being most worthy to benefit from the program. The funding for the Reindeer Run is through use of the Law Enforcement Trust Fund which is money acquired through the forfeited assets of criminals. This year Waste Management joined in to help support the event by donating $1,000 to both agencies, along with Wal-Mart who donated $2,000 to each agency, to help purchase the gift cards. "It's all about making a difference in the lives of as many children as possible," said Chief James Rogers. "It is extremely rewarding for us when we see the smiles on their faces."
The Reindeer Run begins at 8 a.m. at the Palm Bay Road Wal-Mart.
