Novel approach combats bullying

A boy planned to commit suicide after school. That same day, a local author presented to his class on “The Power of Words in Life and Literature,” an anti-bullying program focused on accountability, empathy, and kindness to enable kids to be the voice for themselves and others. That boy was touched by something the author shared, and he decided he wanted to live. Years later, the author learned that she had saved his life.

This is a true story; and I am that author.

My name is Jaimie Engle and I have spent the last four years inspiring, empowering, and educating students in Brevard County schools and beyond using my award-winning novel Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light as a basis for my program.

The novel follows a Melbourne boy who time travels to rescue King Richard III’s nephews from the Tower of London. The book, geared for readers ages 8-10 who are fans of fantasy adventures, addresses bullying in the present and throughout history, the power of friendship, and the importance of accountability through empathy.

My program includes a 40-minute anti-bullying presentation followed by Q&A and autograph session for books purchased in advance. In addition, each school receives a novel study guide suitable for fourth through sixth grade, aligned with Florida Public School standards, that turns the fantasy adventure book into a teaching tool. A condensed version of the novel for grades K-3 is also available as a coloring book for younger students.

I’ve presented this program to thousands of students, but I have only scratched the surface. More students, like the one from the story above, need my program. My Adopt-A-School Program is an opportunity for you to provide financing for school visits. The different levels:

  1. Inspire Program: Sponsor one school plus provide 20 copies of the novel. $599
  2. Empower Program: Sponsor three schools plus 20 copies of the novel per school. $1,499
  3. Educate Program: Sponsor five schools plus 20 copies of the novel per school. $2,299

As a program sponsor, your company ad or personal message will be printed on the first page of each book provided to students. Most people keep books for many years, donate them to others, or pass them down, sharing your brand with more than just the students in these schools. Plus, this unique and personal way will support change one life at a time! The Adopt-A-School Program works for all students in grades K-12.
