Tiffany Allen: Artist of the Month at Studios of Cocoa Beach

Date: Wednesday January 1, 2020 through Friday January 31, 2020.
Time: All Day Event
Location: Studios of Cocoa Beach
Address: 165 Minuteman Causeway, Cocoas Beach FL
Price: free
Category: Arts / Exhibits
The Studios of Cocoa Beach introduces its January Artist of the Month, Tiffany Allen. Tiffany draws realistic images of animals, birds, fish and nature using graphite and charcoal pencil. I enjoy the control and precision of drawing with pencil. The monochrome palette highlights the patterns and textures in the subjects I draw. For each piece, she begins by lightly sketching the bones of the piece on heavy weight 100% cotton Bristol vellum. The paper choice is the foundation of my art and is critical to the final image. Using different combinations of graphite and charcoal pencils, she then layers and blends until the desired depth, texture and tone are achieved. Most of my drawings require as many as a dozen pencils of varying hardness and can take as long as 40 hours to complete. But each is absolutely a labor of love.

A fine art print of Tiffanys Sea Turtle in Blue will be the prize in the Studios monthly giveaway. To enter this free drawing, visit the Studios any day in January. Tiffanys work can be viewed during the Studios regular hours. Located at 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach, the Studios is open Monday and Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information about exhibits, artists and workshop schedules, call the Studios at 321-613-3480

Address: 3865 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne

Indigo Girls Twenty years after they began releasing records as the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have politely declined the opportunity to slow down with age. With a legacy of releases and countless U.S. and international tours behind them, the Indigo Girls have forged their own way in the music business. Selling over 14 million records, they are still going strong. Amy & Emily are the only duo with top 40 titles on theBillboard200 in the '80s, '90s, '00s and '10s. In 2012, Saliers and her Indigo Girls partner Amy Ray embarked on a bold new chapter, collaborating with a pair of orchestrators to prepare larger-than-life arrangements of their songs to perform with symphonies around the country. The duo found an elusive sonic sweet spot with the project, creating a seamless blend of folk, rock, pop, and classical that elevated their songs to new heights without scarifying any of the emotional intimacy and honesty that have defined their music for decades. Now, after more than 50 performances with symphonies across America, the experiences have finally been captured in all its grandeur on the band’s stunning new album, ‘Indigo Girls Live With The University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra.’ The power of unity, both in music and in life, has been an Indigo Girls calling card ever since they burst into the spotlight with their 1989 self-titled breakout album. Since then, the band has racked up a slew of Gold and Platinum records, taken home a coveted GRAMMY Award, and earned the respect of high-profile peers and collaborated from Michael Stipe to Joan Baez. NPR’s Mountain Stage called the group “one of the finest folk duos of all time” while Rolling Stone said, “they personify what happens when two distinct sensibilities, voices, and worldviews come together to create something transcendentally its own.” The duo has balanced their long, successful musical career by supporting numerous social causes–the Indigo Girls don’t just talk the talk; they walk the walk. Both on and off the stage, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray have secured their spot as one of the most legendary musical acts of this generation.

The Studios of Cocoa Beach is holding a reception for their newest exhibit Luminous Wax, a guest artist exhibit exploring encaustic medium.

Encaustic is an ancient technique, favored by the Greeks and Romans, using hot wax mixed with colored pigments. A resurgence in popularity finds artists using various ways to heat and manipulate the wax, producing dimensional effects, adding collage materials and layered effects. Although technically challenging, the technique is prized for its dimensional quality and luminous colors.

Artists in the exhibit include Shelley Jean, Alan Lindenmuth, Thomas Carmon, Judy Pickett, Kathy Stutzman, Sally Auman, Linda Lopez, Francine Michel, and Ali Lanenga. The exhibit will be judged by Megan Boye,Independent Curator and Arts Advocate.

During the evening event awards will be announced and visitors can meet the guest artists as well as Studio members. Luminous Wax will be on display through March 23, 2020 during regular Studio hours. Monday and Tuesday 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, Wednesday to Saturday 10:30 am to 8:00 pm, and Sunday 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
