Time: All Day Event

Price: Free-Personal Choice
Category: Fund Raiser
Founded in 2011, The Animal Sanctuary is getting close to constructing the first building on our 16-acre campus-like refuge for abused, neglected and unwanted domestic animals. This refuge will be a cage-free, no-kill, safe oasis where animals can wait in a no-stress environment for that special person to adopt them into loving, forever homes, or live out their remaining years surrounded by caring, compassionate animal-loving staff and volunteers.

While our focus has always been on raising funds to bring the dream of this 11-building haven to reality, we have and do continue to rescue animals (over 360 to date), with the help of fosters and donors. Funds are pulled from these sources and put into our building fund while ALL profits from our upscale Sanctuary Thrift Shoppe that has been in operation since 2012, goes directly into our building fund. Covid-19 has hurt us tremendously and we NEED YOUR HELP so we can stay on track and start construction this year with the goal of rescuing more animals in need of a safe, loving place to call home.

Thank you for your interest in The Animal Sanctuary's FIRST virtual event, our "Rescue, Love, and BUILD Raffle." Together, through education, word-of-mouth, volunteering, and donating to animal rescue organizations, that we, together, can give abused and neglected animals a second chance of knowing safety, peace and LOVE.

Green Gables Open House

Location: Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc.
Address: 1501 S. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32901

Green Gables is one of only three Queen Anne style homes in South Brevard, so preserving this architecture and restoring the home as well as the Wells family legacy is important. William and Nora Wells played a key role in the development of early Melbourne. Their vision and generosity gifted the area with Wells Park and the first auditorium, assistance with building and establishing the first library, organizing and funding the first high school classes, to name a few, all of which have been enjoyed by several generations.

Even though Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc. has submitted to be considered for a Florida matching grant to own the home, we must continue to work toward repairing, stabilizing, and then restoring this historical Queen Anne style treasure for the South Brevard area.

Ann Welly Revels, August Spotlight Artist

Date: Event occurs every Saturday of every month.
Time: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Location: The Downtown Art Gallery
Address: 335 S. Washington Ave., Titusville FL
Price: free
Category: Arts / Exhibits
We have all been spending more time staying at home and many people used this time to work on landscaping, including tree trimming. This has been a blessing for Titusville artist Ann Welly Revels who collects yard debris and creates tropical treasures. Ann is the August Spotlight Artist at the Downtown Art Gallery, 335 S. Washington Ave , in downtown Titusville. The exhibit of her work may include bits of your palm tree that she has turned into a basket.
Ann has long been fascinated by the tactile feel of fibers and has a keen eye for natural materials in the world around us. Her interest in the environment is reflected in her work. Loom woven wall hangings include branches and grasses as well as yarn. Anns handmade paper incorporates petals, leaves, and spices or is embossed by seed pods. Her palm skin baskets are made from the boot that attaches the palm frond to the trunk on certain tropical palms. Where others see tree trimmings on the side of the road as a pile of trash, Ann sees potential works of art.
Every piece of palm fiber is different depending on the species and the season. Each has a personality. I never know exactly what I will create until I begin to shape it. Once dried, the basket tells me what sort of embellishment, if any, or what plant or animal I should woodburn on the surface. Its such a hands-on process that I really feel I am collaborating with the materials. My goal is to allow others to experience this gift from our tropical paradise.

Her work can be viewed Mondays and Thursday through Saturday 11 am to 3 pm at the Downtown Art Gallery. For more information call 321-268-0122 or check out their Facebook page.
