PALM BAY ACADEMY WELCOMES DR. VIDAL OLIVO AS NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

 PALM BAY ACADEMY WELCOMES DR. VIDAL OLIVO  AS NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Palm Bay, Florida – July 2, 2019 – Palm Bay Academy welcomes Dr. Vidal Olivo as the new principal to the Middle School Campus for the 2019-2020 school year. He brings innovative leadership to the Palm Bay Academy family with a focus on strong student and staff collaboration. Dr. Olivo will instill a program that emphasizes accountability and brings extracurricular clubs to introduce students to high-demand skills needed in the Brevard County workforce.  

“As principal of Palm Bay Academy Middle School, it is my aspiration to bring unity throughout the community. My drive and intention is to create a learning institution where all our students are equipped to immediately and positively impact our school, community, state and world as confident, dedicated leaders. Our staff at PBA MS is 100% committed to fostering an environment where our students are empowered with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze, identify and provide solutions to global issues as they strive to become community-minded leaders,” Dr. Olivo states. “As a transformational servant leader in my community, I try to not only teach but lead by example. I am highly motivated and use that motivation to change lives and organizations for the better.

Olivo began his career teaching in 2000 at Paterson Public Schools in New Jersey after graduating from William Paterson University with a BS in Health and Movement Science as a Physical Education and Health teacher. Serving in various capacities, he developed his teaching and leadership skills throughout his six-year tenure within Paterson Public Schools before moving to Florida. He joined Southwest Middle School in 2005 and by 2007 had obtained his Master of Science degree in Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. While working on his doctorate, his aspiration to make a greater impact lead him to work for the US Air Force with the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) at Lackland AFB. Dr. Olivo earned his EdD in Organizational and Instructional Leadership in 2017 also from Nova Southeastern University. 

Dr. Olivo spent eight years learning about the cultures of 140 countries while teaching English as a second language. During his tenure at DLI, Dr. Olivo had the opportunity to experience and work abroad for six months in the country of Azerbaijan teaching English to NATO allies. Upon his return in 2015, Dr. Olivo continued to work on his dissertation, A Strategic Military Approach to Academic Outcomes Among Adult English Language Learners, when he received his final approval in 2017. 

PBA is poised to continue the climb as one of South Brevard’s elite lower educational schools with Dr. Olivo’s leadership at PBA Middle School. Palm Bay Academy is also continuing the growth of South Brevard’s only full language immersion school. The PBA Immersion campus teaches Spanish and Mandarin and will be expanding the Immersion school from Kindergarten -Third grade to Fourth grade in the 2019-2020 school year.
