If the eyes are windows to the soul, eyebrows are the window treatments. They frame and highlight the eyes to direct attention to this most precious part of the face.

Fashions come and go when it comes to window treatments, as well as for eyebrows. Decades ago, pencil-thin brows were popular, before Brooke Shields popularized bold eyebrows. Today, we have reached a happy medium, with natural-looking, “fluffy” eyebrows that look fabulous in selfies.

So, we know what we like in eyebrows these days. How do we get them? Few of us have perfect brows, but fortunately that is not an issue, since permanent makeup, including microblading, allows everyone to enjoy brow perfection that lasts not just for an evening, but for years.

At Sol y Mar Brow Studio, I perform various forms of permanent makeup or micropigmentation, including the popular and highly effective and long-lasting microblading. As microblading isn’t recommended for all skin types, I also offer a technique called nano brows where I create hair strokes with a machine similar to tattooing. The brow techniques I offer in addition to microblading are: powder brows, ombré brows, nano and nano combo brows.

I have been a nurse practitioner for many years, and I decided to open Sol y Mar Brow Studio because I get to channel my artistic side while helping people look and feel their best. I’ve always loved doing makeup and eyebrows for my family.

With microblading, I don’t use a tattoo gun, but rather a blade-shaped tool that has tiny needles that deposit pigment into the skin to create hair-like strokes along the brows. The resulting brows last up to three years with once-a-year maintenance.

My clients love it because it really saves them the time and hassle of filling in their eyebrows every time they go out. With our lifestyle in Florida, we are at the pool or the beach or doing outdoor activities and could end up spending a lot of time and money using brow pencils and gels. Microblading frees you from all that. There is no more drawing, no more filling. You’re good to go!

The procedure is done in two sessions. During the first session, the brows are shaped and filled in. I ask clients to return in six to 12 weeks so we can do the final touch-up.

A topical analgesic numbs the brows before the procedure, so it’s actually pretty comfortable, similar to the sensation you experience while tweezing. Some of my clients even sleep through it.

Microblading can make you look better and make life easier, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly. You do need to do due diligence when selecting a microblading artist. I do a lot of correcting of other people’s work and I have seen problems that can arise if the tattooing goes too deep or if the artist is not skilled enough to create the appearance of naturally full brows that match the natural hair color.

Before booking with a microblading artist, check their credentials and read their reviews and social media photos.

With the right brow artist, however, microblading is truly a game changer, and you can say goodbye to brow pencils.
