Hidden Gem: Happy Health Human
Known for its organic, vegetarian dishes, Happy Healthy Human has been a popular stop for beachside residents for years. Part raw vegetarian restaurant, part food market, Happy Healthy Human is the place to visit if you are striving to eat clean in a relaxed, comfortable environment. Customers can dine in the cafe, pick up one of the freshly prepared grab-n-go items, or stock up on affordable organic produce to use at home.
New owner, Kianna Staples, took over the restaurant in May. But to the cafe’s many regulars, Staples is a familiar face. Prior to the changeover, Staples worked with the previous owner, Joe Tom, for over three years.
“We are the only truly raw, organic cafe around,” Staples said. “We get fresh produce delivered twice a week, and everything we make is prepared from scratch using organic ingredients.”
Prior to working at Happy Healthy Human, Staples, a lifelong Brevard resident, worked in a variety of restaurants throughout the county. She has always been interested in food science and in cooking with healthy ingredients.
“Every job I have ever had was in food service. Working in restaurants, I noticed the backgrounds, the greasy kitchens,” Staples said. “And I knew the better you eat, the better you feel. I wanted to help people feel better.”
Within a few months after taking over, Staples expanded the cafe’s juice inventory and added additional grocery items to the organic market. The cafe now serves hot coffee and lattes, available with coconut milk or Brazilian nut milk and natural sweeteners. Staples added new breakfast options, such as chia pudding with fruit and quinoa porridge with cashew vanilla cream.
The cafe menu also includes cold-pressed juices, raw tacos, “mylk” shakes, and the top selling açai bowl. In the market, customers can choose from a wide selection of seasonal, locally sourced organic produce. They can also purchase bulk items such as rice or oats or pick up a tub of homemade cashew butter to take home.
Loyal customer Stephane Gregory shops or dines at Happy Healthy Human at least twice a week. The custom orders she places with Staples help Gregory and her family stick to their all organic, mainly plant-based diet.
“We started coming to Happy Healthy Human because my husband and I are both committed to fueling our bodies and using food as a healer,” Gregory said.
Educating people about foods and their benefits is one of Staples’ favorite parts of the job. She and her team go above and beyond to provide healthy dishes and ingredients at affordable prices. Their customer service keeps customers coming back.
“Kianna has a vision. She is committed to providing a healthier resource for everyone,” Gregory said. “And everything is delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.”
