Create Confident Kids

Marty Ward

Every day, the bright light of our children is at risk of being drowned out by the rain of words and deeds of the bully. Since we can’t stop the bully from doing or saying whatever they want, as parents and grandparents, we have an opportunity to protect our children by teaching them how Talented, Able and Gifted (TAGs) they are so that believe in themselves rather than the mean words of the bully.

When children know they are OK exactly as they are, they can trust themselves and make healthy choices. When you TAG Kids for Success™ each day, you create a win/win home atmosphere where everyone learns to be “Confidence Boosters” supporting each other rather than “Fault Finders” tearing each other down. You get more cooperation and time for fun.

TAG YOUR CHILD FOR SUCCESS™
Here is how you can help Create Confident Kids. Write down 5 -10 Talents, Abilities and Gifts. Start by listing their Talents – what they love to do. Then write down what skill they use to do what they love – that is their Ability. Their Gift is what they create with their Talents and Abilities.

LIST their Talents, Abilities, and Gifts

Talent
What do they love to do? Do the puzzle, create the castle, jump the puddle, do bike tricks, play an instrument, fix what’s broken, write stories, songs or poetry, paint, run the mile, tell funny stories, win computer games?

Ability
A God-given skill that comes naturally, easily - THAT is what they are born to do!  Are they rhythmic, flexible, creative, inventive, imaginative, bright, good at sports, intuitive, funny? Those are Abilities that they use to express their Talents. Give them chances to develop those Abilities.

Gift
Expressing their value in the world through their Ability and Talent is the Gift they give. Do they entertain you with their music; are they a good team mate; do they teach others computer games, do they fix cars, share their poetry, block the tackle, kick a goal, make presents with their art; help their classmates; decorate the table? Those are some of the gifts they give the world by just being who they are!

Describe your child with their TAGs frequently to build their confidence and have them know what a gift they are to the world.

A. “Look at how you used your imagination (A) in writing (T)  that interesting story (G) about the little boy and the tiger.”
B. “I saw you using your rhythm (A)when you clapped to that song on the radio.”
C. “Now that drawing (G) is especially creative (A). How imaginative (A) of you to add the red, green, and yellow squiggly line to connect them all together. “
D. “You were very athletic (A) on the playground today; you held on really tight (T) as you climbed hand over hand (T) to the top of the jungle gym.”
