Come Out & Play in South Brevard

Come Out & Play in South Brevard

Like most Americans, I start off the year gung-ho with a new outlook, only to fall into my same old pattern within a few weeks. I have never been great at routine and discipline. But the opportunities for personal development — personally and in business — are all around us.

The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce continues to be innovative, providing new opportunities for our members and the community. Next up is the Palm Bay Multicultural Festival on Jan. 29. The free event features different cultural groups from around the world with dance, music, demonstrations, food trucks, a marketplace, and all-day entertainment.

Aug. 26, we are bringing back the Space Coast Symposium, featuring speakers discussing cutting-edge technology and innovations that can impact your business and life.

It’s also important to have personal development. During COVID-19, I discovered a love of trail riding. My husband and I spent weekends at Ocala’s Santos trails, Lakeland’s Loyce E. Harpe Park, Deland’s Chuck Lennon bike trail, Tampa’s Riverwalk, and Tallahassee’s Munson Hills Mountain Bike Trail.

This all started with the discovery of the local Malabar Scrub Sanctuary, Cameron Trial, Turkey Creek, Jordan Scrub and Grant Flatwoods Sanctuary. We didn’t have to travel the state to discover local eco-tourism. We now also own two Hobie kayaks, officially turning us into outdoor adventurers. The positive effects on our minds, body, and spirit feel amazing.

As Geoffrey Chaucer wrote, “Time and tide wait for no man.” Make a change and get outdoors, exploring the hidden gems we have in our own backyard. The Three Forks Marsh has some of the best bass fishing in the state. Kayaking or paddle boarding in Palm Bay and up Turkey Creek is spectacular. Enjoy the Malabar or Palm Bay Disc Golf Course or regular golf courses, paintball facility, boating via the numerous boat launches in South Brevard, or the Palm Bay Aquatic Center. Rowers can be seen on the Indian River and along the C-54 Canal. Hiking and birding are great along the Erna Nixon or Turkey Creek Sanctuary boardwalks.

You can horseback ride through the Jordan Scrub Sanctuary. The West Melbourne Community Park is a unique all-access sports complex and playground for those with special needs.

The Ted Moorhead Lagoon House is an informative stop for education about the Indian River Lagoon, the 1883 Little Red Schoolhouse is a historical building nestled in the Joy & Gordon Patterson Botanical Garden at Florida Tech. Visit Green Gables for a step back in time.

There is plenty to experience in the entire South Brevard region. Put on your sunscreen and come out and play!
