Publisher Insights: Consistency Has Power

Consistency has power. It builds trust. It provides stability and over time, it increases productivity and transforms average into excellence.

Many experts agree that consistency, not intensity, is far more important than one can imagine. I recall the mundane tasks my parents insisted upon when I was a child: Make your bed, wash your face, brush your teeth, brush your hair, pick up your toys, get proper rest — you know the drill. All of which are now done by habit. Those habits were formed through consistency — small efforts repeated day in and day out that over time became more deliberate, resulting in feeling motivated and accountable.

As an entrepreneur, your employees, customers, and vendors depend on consistency. It builds trust, helps you establish a tone and voice for your brand and improves customer retention. The bottom line: when you’re consistent with your routines, you are more likely to achieve your goals.

A few years ago, I made a personal decision to be more consistent with improving my health, which included moving my body. The goal wasn’t to simply lose weight with diet and exercise, but rather to develop healthy habits that would combat aging, increase energy levels, enhance brain function, and support a good-living lifestyle that was rich with adventure, healthy foods, and a variety of exercise options like swimming, biking, walking, yoga, meditation, and functional strength training.

Why? Here are my three reasons.

  1. When I married my husband, we committed to 40+ years of marriage that would put us both into our 90s. I didn’t see our lifestyle then supporting that commitment.
  2. As a parent of adult children, I wanted to be an example of wellness and never become a burden to them due to not taking care of myself.
  3. As a champion of local entrepreneurs, it is important to me that my own experience allows me to provide insights and resources that others find valuable and supportive for their own journeys.

My commitment has been tested. The road I’ve traveled has been full of ups and downs and lessons learned. I’ve had to pull myself out of the darkness, let go of judgment, people-pleasing, and perfectionism, and oddly enough I’ve had to re-evaluate my why.

My story is shifting, changing, and evolving. It now has me front and center in a positive way, not selfish or mean or neglectful. I’m very present in my family and work, but the priorities have shifted so that my personal needs are met first. My healthy habits are becoming more and more consistent. There is still room for learning and improvement, but I know I’m on the right track.

As a lifestyle and business blogger, it is my goal to share common tactics, daily life experiences and various perspectives on a variety of topics that will inspire and springboard you into taking actions to create the life you want to live.
