The Power of the Pause

The Power of the Pause

Let’s be honest: The phrase “work-life balance” loses all meaning once you become an entrepreneur. Whether you employ many or you are a solopreneur, business demands never end. Especially during a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s vital that you create time and space just so you can think. Pauses are necessary to take in life and digest experiences. All too often we jump from project to project or deadline to deadline and never take a break for reflection.

Taking a break allows time to analyze processes and systems, make adjustments or integrate new things. It gives us space for creativity to emerge, goals to be re-evaluated and get priorities in order.

Opening yourself to beauty and adventure is a form of self-care. It’s an opportunity to fill your own cup, and all too often is overlooked or considered unnecessary or a waste of time. During the last 90 days, I have gotten more accomplished in less time because I am more focused and strategic. I have prioritized my family and self-care before work. I put appropriate boundaries in place so that I am not working seven days a week.

For the magazine, we adjusted distribution methods (COVID friendly) and launched a new social strategy to elevate our advertisers’ visibility. Numerous clients have experienced the same thing: More time to build relationships, work on the business and maintain or even grow revenue because of better focus. There is power in the pause.

I am so proud of our community and how we have persevered. New businesses have opened, like Staci Sullivan’s Jewelry & Design Studio in Melbourne and Stumpy’s Hatchet House in Cocoa. Existing businesses made pivots, and many are thriving. Financial programs and business services continue to be made available for business owners who are struggling, and families are spending more quality time together than in recent months or years.

It’s in the mail

Save the date July 20-24. The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Palm Bay, will be hosting the Virtual Disaster Recovery Expo. This event will be packed with community resources and important information that can help your business thrive when mayhem strikes.

Local commercial construction and home renovation industries are booming. Pullman West is helping homeowners design, renovate and furnish while Northboro Builders, Inc. will be transforming the Foosaner Art Museum and Education Center into a boutique hotel.
