Celebrating creativity, brilliance and generosity

September 22 marks the first day of fall, my favorite time of year. I can already taste and smell all things pumpkin! Soon there will be hay rides, pumpkin patches, decorated porches, farmers markets and cornucopia filled with seasonal fruits and vegetables. As the weather starts to cool a bit, there will be bonfires, walks in the park, fall festivals, fairs and gift shopping.

I have called Brevard home for 33 years, and as we put the finishing touches on this magazine, I was reminded of why I love our community so much. Brevard is rich with inspiring, talented and brilliant individuals. We are so fortunate to be able to write about and introduce them to you each issue. In this magazine, we celebrate the brilliance in Brevard, and the artistry of our local musicians, chefs and creators — from tattoos to theater to a teen woodworker.

In this issue, we talk about defining family and share a story of a local entrepreneur who was recently reunited with her birth mother. We are overflowing with tips from local experts on how to stay well in multiple aspects of our lives. And we know you’ll be inspired by stories of how cancer survivors are healing through art or how they have found sisterhood through paddling.

My favorite story this issue is Building Brevard’s Flavor Profile. Karyn Cole writes about the mouth-watering future Brevard County has in store thanks to a crop of innovative local chefs who have landed the Space Coast on the culinary map. If you’re a foodie, be sure to get your tickets to the James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Dinner on Sept. 30 and the 5th Annual Taste of the Coast hosted by the Cocoa Beach Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 28.

Giving is something I love to do. As do so many of you. Brevard is one of the most giving communities on record. Fall and holiday season mean we dig deeper to help the people and causes that mean so much to us. They need our help all year long, and look forward to our support through fundraisers and events.
