Peace Officers Memorial Day

Hall of Fame Continues Flag Tradition Despite Ceremony Cancellation

In honor of the May 15 Peace Officer Memorial Day, The American Police Hall of Fame & Museum once again has its flag display along 405, just south of Titusville. The flags represent fallen officer family members who are served by the compassionate programs headquartered at the Hall of Fame facility.

Each year, the flags, which typically number around 13,000, are placed on the grounds of the Hall of Fame in cooperation with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department via inmates from the Brevard County jail.

Although COVID-19 threw a monkey wrench into plans for this year’s memorial observance, this is nonetheless a time of reflection and tribute at the Hall of Fame.

“Although we are not holding our formal memorial service this year, we WILL have a special video tribute playing all day inside the museum’s large training room,” said CEO Barry Shepherd. “We want to make sure that local law enforcement and those civilians who support law enforcement have a place to come where they can reflect on the meaning of the day. The public is invited to visit the museum to watch the tribute anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. It will be looping continuously. Admission to the museum is free all day. We encourage folks to come out and pay tribute to our men and women of the thin blue line and to those who gave all…in 2019 and in years past.”

For those who cannot make it to the facility, a link to the video tribute will be posted on the Hall of Fame website at www.APHF.org.

Additionally, the facility is offering a virtual “Walk of Heroes” on its Facebook page, allowing the general public to pay tribute to law enforcement in general, current sworn officers, fallen or disabled officers or the families who support them. You can find the virtual tribute at https://www.facebook.com/APHF911/
