7 Signs its Time to Change Jobs

If you find yourself calling out sick and if you can’t wait for Friday to arrive, it might be time to seek another career. Of course, you’ll want to be prepared.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, we are at an all-time low for unemployment, and finding a new job should be easier than ever. So how do you know you’re ready to make the change? Below, is a list of signs that indicate it may be time to move on in your career — and follow your dreams.

1. Is it a job or a career?

Do you report to work daily, perform a number of mundane tasks that you are fairly competent at, and go home, only to start again the next day? Wouldn’t it be great to report to work knowing that you are going to be challenged, learn something new, and have an opportunity to grow and advance?

2. Work/life balance

Many companies understand the importance of work/life balance. Does yours? Are you working long hours but not getting paid for overtime? Are you “on call” or need to work evenings or weekends to make ends meet? Do you often bring work home to stay caught up, or need to turn on the computer Sunday night to meet the demands?

3. You want to resign!

You dread the idea of waking up and going to work. Worse yet, you are habitually late. At 5:00, you are out the door. You are doing the bare minimum.

4. You’re exhausted & downhearted

You think of work and a cloud settles over you. You feel emotionally, physically and/or mentally exhausted all the time. You dream of a promotion, but there is no way to obtain it. You are never praised by your boss. His/her expectations are unreasonable, and they have no boundaries. There is no path for advancement, and, the worst part is you are bored. Stress and lack of enthusiasm drain your energy, and these warnings signs take a toll on your health and well-being.

5. Is my salary a reflection of my worth?

Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you they aren’t being paid enough! Contact a company that can determine your earning potential and get you a competitive salary. Call your local staffing agency and look on Glassdoor, where employees privately post their salaries.

6. You are in a dead-end situation

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but when you are constantly shot down over new ideas and make good suggestions that are ignored, you are being passed over.

7. Your health is deteriorating

Does your stomach or head ache? Are you often in the bathroom? Constantly feeling ill?  If you answered “Yes,” it’s another telltale sign you don’t want to be there. Follow your instincts and your gut.

Career change is never easy. If you are procrastinating in a dead-end job, can’t find work/life balance and already want to resign, it’s time to make an adjustment. After all, job seekers are in the driver’s seat due to the up-turn of the economy. You can approach a career change with confidence. This is the best time to change from hopeless to the ranks of hopeful job seekers.
