Green Gables, a living history museum and community education center built in 1896, is situated on 1.15 acres of green space on the bluff along the Indian River Lagoon. The volunteers of Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc. reached a milestone with the acquisition of the home and property in 2023. The next stage will be the rehabilitation and renovation of this landmark, transforming this Forgotten Enchantress to her former grandeur. This 127-year-old historic home represents Melbournes Bridge to the Past. Visit Green Gables to learn about the history of the Wells Family, generous benefactors who played a key role in the development of early Melbourne. Their vision and generosity gifted the area with Wells Park, the first Auditorium, the first library, establishing the first high school, and many more projects in the community, all of which have been enjoyed by several generations. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the beautiful view and breezes from the Indian River Lagoon.
